Administration
Laura Duncan – Principal

Dear Battle Creek Elementary Families,
As we begin another exciting school year, I am filled with pride and gratitude to serve as principal at Battle Creek Elementary—a school community that holds a special place in my heart. I have had the privilege of watching our school grow from a construction site into a thriving place where learning is connected to solving real-world problems through communication, creativity, critical thinking, and character building.
I am a proud Nashville native and earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville—Go Vols! My career in education began in Florida as a 1st grade teacher and eventually brought me to the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee, where I taught kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grades. During that time, I earned both my Master’s and Educational Specialist degrees in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University, which led me into school administration.
As I begin my 31st year in education—with 14 years in the classroom and 16 in administration—I can honestly say that I still love what I do. Working alongside students, families, and dedicated educators and staff brings me joy and purpose every single day.
Outside of school, I am the proud mom of two sons and their wonderful wives, and I’m also a very happy grandmother to one precious grandson. I enjoy reading, traveling, and most of all, spending quality time with my family.
I believe that a strong partnership between home and school is one of the greatest keys to student success. Together, we can create an environment where every child feels valued, challenged, and supported as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
I look forward to partnering with you to make this school year one filled with growth, meaningful learning, and joyful memories for our students. Thank you for the trust you place in us each day and for allowing me the honor of serving this incredible school community.
Warmly,
Laura Duncan
